warecache
Summary
warecache is a smart inventory management system that fixes the issues of traditional inventory systems with smart storage devices. Instead of relying on people to ensure that inventory quantities remain correct, various sensors and storage devices will guarantee every part is accounted for.
The whole system comprises of server software, client software, and of course the smart storage. As this is all still in early development, more information will be included as it is implemented.
All items in warecache can be divided into three categories: parts, bill of materials (BOMs), and projects. Each project can contain other projects, just like subassemblies. Each project can also contain multiple BOMs, so you can separate electrica, mechanical, or any other kind of BOM you need. Each BOM is comprised of parts, and are rather straightforward. BOMs and Projects can be versioned in any versioning scheme desired. Lastly, parts can contain as many variable fields as desired to ensure that each item you wish to store is properly documented. To ensure that parts can be compatible with eachother, they can be categorized into different types.
While intended for manufacturing purposes, warecache is agnostic to any specific use case. As long as you have some form of physical inventory, warecache can work for you. Not convinced? Read through the examples below.
Example Use Cases
In House Manufacturing
Trying to keep track of each workbench or station in a production line is a fool's errand. Instead utilize warecache's storage system to hold onto small parts like screws and components or tools and consumables. Removing the burden of keeping each workbench stocked with the necessary items will improve manufacturing productivity by eliminating stocking bottle-necks.
Lab Supplies
In any lab environment, consumables are necessary. No one wants to spend their time keeping track of micropipette tips, autoclaved glassware, gloves, or various chemicals. Running low on critical consumables can seriously impact any experiment; let warecache handle the boring tasks.
R&D Prototyping
When creating new prototypes or simply tinkering, new parts are constantly ordered and forgotten about. Instead of buying the same components over and over again, simply put your ordered components into warecache. warecache will cross list components that are already locally stocked in existing products, locate previously ordered prototype components, and list lifecycles of all components previously ordered so no one has to do so manually. This will help your team reduce budgetary constraints and the need to retain more inventory than needed.
Industrial Kitchen
Trying to maintain when each container has been last used or packaged is tedious and prone to error. Using warecache to keep tabs on when new produce has arrived and when leftover food was packaged or reopened will help reduce the chance of serving spoiled food.
